Proofreading and copy editing will hone the words of your document into a polished, finished product.

Which should you choose?

Proofreading is ideal when your document is ready-to-go… almost.

The hard work of perfecting the writing has been done, the document is ready to print, but you need one last check by a different set of eyes to make sure that all errors have been corrected.

This service is designed to correct:

  • Spelling errors
  • Misplaced punctuation
  • Basic grammar mistakes
  • Typological errors
  • Incorrect cross-references
  • Layout errors (if your document is ready for printing)

Proofreading is often mistaken as a ‘light copy edit’. As a courtesy, areas of the document that are unclear or awkwardly worded may be highlighted, but if a full copy edit is required, I will pause the proofreading and work with you to come up with the best plan of action. It is important for your business reputation and branding that your front-facing documents are as error-free as possible, and I take pride in ensuring that this is the case, every time.

Copy Editing

Do you have a draft document that needs a proper revise?

You’ve written as much as you can but it’s still not feeling right. Sentences need to be reworded and it’s not sounding as professional as you’d like.

Copy editing is designed to improve:

  • Spelling errors
  • Incorrect punctuation
  • Basic grammar mistakes
  • Incorrect cross-references
  • Typological errors
  • Poor or awkward word choice
  • Passive voice
  • Tone
  • Wordy or redundant sentences
  • Gendered language
  • Missing references

Copy editing is best done before any document formatting has been undertaken, so that you can lay out the finished text without the need for unnecessary revisions.
